Hilda E. Pennington

Mrs. Hilda Colson Pennington, 92, of Murray, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Spring Creek Health Care.

Born Hilda Earlene Colson on September 16, 1917, she was the fifth, and last surviving, of the seven children of the late Mr. Joseph Sanders Colson and Mrs. Evie Ellis Colson of Murray Route Three. She was married to Mr. Rufus Clinton Pennington on June 26, 1937, a union lasting for 47 years until Mr. Pennington’s demise in 1984.

Mrs. Pennington was a homemaker and local activist in the Faxon community of the county, residing on 94 East from 1946 to 1988 when she moved to Murray. She was the oldest living member and former Sunday School teacher of Ledbetter Baptist Church where she had worshipped since childhood.

She is survived by her son, Mr. Kim E. Pennington of Boston, Mass., by her dearest long-standing friend, Mrs. Robbie Falwell, by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Wanda Colson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Hilda Colson Pennington will be at 11:00AM, Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Imes-Miller Funeral Home. Rev. Ricky Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at the Ledbetter Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors between the hours of 5-8PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
